The Strike on Tubes

So… the drivers of the Tube trains decided that they will be going on strike for 24 hours, and that started today at 6 p.m.

I was initially very negative about the fact that I would have to find an alternate way to get home and possibly get lost so I was dreading the approach of the end of the day.

But before we talk about that, I had a meeting with Charlotte before I left for the day.

Tomorrow I have a meeting with the sales team talking about all of the research I have been doing, so Charlotte and I discussed what I should present to them and such.

We had a great discussion and she has been very impressed with all that I have found. A couple of the case studies that I have stumbled upon are actually very interesting and the possibilities of LEDs and colored light are endless.

In September, the Tube will start running 24 hours on Fridays and Saturdays and I have found that the reason for this is because of LED lighting, because LEDs are lower maintenance and reduce costs. Charlotte was blown away when I told her about this.

I told her more about my research and she was excited for me to present this to the team and was also pleased that I was not nervous to present it to them. So more updates on how that goes later…

So anyway, my alternate route home. My coworkers advised me to walk, since walking to a bus stop and then waiting for said bus and the commute would be much longer than just walking, so that’s what I did.

I google mapped the directions on my phone and then screen-shotted the results and on my way I went.

At first I thought I was going the wrong way, but then buildings on the street and on my map started lining up and I was like “OH YEAH AUSTIN (or Astrin as Starbucks spells my name) YOU GOT THIS”. So I was basically skipping down the streets of London. I passed the theater where Bradley Cooper was performing The Elephant Man (which I would love to see but tickets are basically sold out :( ) . I saw the theater where The Phantom of the Opera is playing. I found more shopping (J. Crew, Hunter, Hollister- lol, Anthropologie, and more!), and many souvenir shops that I will probably hit before I go back home. I was loving this walk back to Regent’s!

I wasn’t getting lost, I was finding new and exciting things to do, and I felt like a local (mostly because I was pushing through people and walking around people and was wearing my red trench coat and yeah).

So something I was a little (a lot) negative about turned into a positive experience! I’m ending the night watching The Bachelorette and Big Brother with my gal pals and tomorrow I am off to Dublin!

Until next time, ta ta for now!
